I shared a simple truth:
Children learn best when we use all the tools available — phonics, rote memorisation of high‑frequency words, context clues, syllable building, and more. Almost all kids can become fluent readers when these methods are combined.
My comment was declined. Why? Because it didn’t fit neatly into the “approved resources only” box. Parents were blocked from hearing it.
This is exactly how progress is strangled. For decades, reading standards have flatlined. Not because parents don’t care. Not because kids can’t learn. But because ideas outside the sanctioned script are shut down before they can even be discussed.
When groups say “share tips” but mean “only tips we already know,” they discourage the very exchange that could lift struggling readers. Parents who desperately need practical strategies are left with silence.
If we truly want to break the cycle of illiteracy, we must stop policing ideas and start listening. Every child deserves access to every tool that works — not just the ones that fit a marketing boundary.
