Here is another part of the LinkedIn thread by Ethan Lynn

Luqman Michel, this is an interesting perspective. Are you saying, it's best not to teach it at all if it's not done right?
Ethan Lynn was referring to teaching sounds represented by letters.
Luqman Michel:
Ethan Lynn, PhD Yes, teach it correctly or not at all. Why confuse kids by teaching them consonants with extraneous sounds?
Many kids shut down/disengage when they can't make sense of fuhahtuh to form the word fat.
We then blame the kids saying they can't blend.
How do you blend buhahtuh to form the word bat?
But, Dr Ethan, why does this question even arise? Are you saying it is difficult to teach kids consonants without extraneous sounds?
Listen to a kid from Lagos reading the consonants in my blog post. LINK
The above reminds me of what Charlie Munger said:
"The human mind works a lot like the human egg. When one sperm gets into a human egg, an automatic shut-off device bars any other sperm from getting in. The human mind tends strongly toward the same sort of result.”
Often people accumulate large mental holdings of fixed conclusions and attitudes not re-examined.
To the man with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
Why is man with a hammer syndrome always present? I have discussed this with many so-called Ph.Ds on Twitter. When their questions are answered and they have no more questions they shut up and continue with what they have said for decades.
Their professional reputation is all tied up with what they know. They like their ideas, and nothing anyone says will change their minds.
As the saying goes, you can lead the donkey (horse) to the water but can’t make it drink.
