Factors affecting Dyslexic people

I have copied a section from that article as shown below. I made 2 comments and have yet to receive any reply. I would be grateful if any of you can please give me your comments.

Following my last article, I would say that there is no reason why most dyslexics cannot read well with the right instruction.

People often accept dyslexia as an incurable disease. From my experience of teaching dyslexic students, I have found that all my dyslexic students can read if taught in a way suitable for them.

Recently I had written some comments in response to a query by a member in a forum. A learned lady with a string of qualifications criticised my comment and went on to say the following:

Read to your children, whatever their ages

 

One of my readers, Heidi, left this comment on an earlier article about dyslexia:

“I read to my son every night since he was a baby. He grew up to be dyslexic. He is awful with punctuation, but I never have to change his grammar or sentence structure. It is always correct. He also likes to write stories (just for years they weren’t spelled right). Now I know the reading must have really helped his correct usage of word structure, and probably his love for writing stories.”

Notice what she emphasises: even though her son struggles with spelling and punctuation, his grammar and sentence structure are consistently strong. She attributes that foundation to the years she spent reading aloud to him from infancy.

Many of the articles on dyslexia say that dyslexics are phonologically unaware. A little thought will clearly reveal that this statement cannot be true.

I believe a dyslexic child should be made aware that he is dyslexic as soon as the parents find out that he is dyslexic. He must be made to understand what dyslexia means.
