Talking with a machine

 

The field of AI research was founded at a workshop held on the campus of Dartmouth College in 1956. Attendees of the workshop became the leaders of AI research for decades. Many of them predicted that machines as intelligent as humans would exist within a generation.

I would have never imagined talking for hours with a machine but that is what I did yesterday. This was encouraged by my friend, Master Calligrapher Huang Poh Lo.

After speaking for hours I decided to upload the article by Tanveen Hassan and the following is what AI told me.

I telephoned someone on some important matter and after that was settled he asked me a point-blank question:

The book – Teach Your Child to Read – was published only recently yet the testimonial is dated before the publication, please explain.

Those who have been following my blog will not have asked that question. Anyway:

I wrote more than 100 articles since 2010 disagreeing with the more than 35-year-old theory that phonological awareness deficit is the cause of dyslexia. That theory was debunked in 2017. You may read some of the articles in 2010 by Googling.

Rayyan, a 6 year-old, reading from my book

 

Sometime early this year, my friend N. POOLOHGASINGAM aka Huang Poh Lo, complained to me that his grandson Rayyan was unable to read in English despite all the coaching he had given Rayyan.

I then asked Poh Lo how he taught the sounds of a few consonants to Rayyan viz. b, c, f, m, t and s. He sounded all the letters with extraneous sounds – buh, kuh, fuh, muh, tuh and sir/sur.
