A few days ago, a woman in a group on Facebook said she would get a copy of my book Teach Your Child to Read. She bought a Kindle copy and in less than 6 minutes was able to do a book review.
I asked her how she did the review in such a short time and she unfriended me on Facebook.
I would really like to know how some (not all) Americans can do a book review in less than 6 minutes.
I did some research on this woman and found that she is a Speech-Language Pathologist, and Literacy Specialist who believes that all kids who can’t read have a speech-language problem.
She deleted all her comments on the Facebook post which I had commented on. LINK.
Here are some of my comments in response to her comments. Unfortunately, her comments have been deleted by her.

Shawna Pope-Jefferson, you said: "Teaching reading via spelling has been successful for all types of learners with no need for drill of any kind." I am sure it works. There are many ways to teach kids to read. You are an expert in your field. I found that most of the kids shut down/disengage from learning to read due to confusion (these are not severely dyslexic kids as taught by you). The confusion is created by teachers teaching them wrongly. You may like to read a discussion I had with an accomplished teacher in Australia who came to Twitter to find out why her son could not read despite one year of SSP. I 'diagnosed' his problem simply by listening to a voice recording. Link.
I commented as follows on another comment by her:
Shawna Pope-Jefferson, this may need a little elaboration, please. What exactly do you mean by rote memorisation? What rote memorisation could they not do? I am beginning to like your style of responding. You have an open mind unlike many I have encountered. I think I can learn a lot from you.
The next day, I repeated my question as follows:
Shawna Pope-Jefferson I repeat my question above. This may need a little elaboration, please. What exactly do you mean by rote memorisation? What rote memorisation could they not do? Not one of my 'dyslexic' students had a problem with rote memorisation.
Then, she did a book review of my book within 6 minutes of her purchase. That comment has been removed by her following my comment below.
Wow! I am impressed with Shawna Pope-Jefferson. Within 6 minutes from the time she said she would get a copy of my book she had done a book review of my book.
As I have mentioned several times before on social media, I have discovered one method of teaching kids who can’t read. Thousands of teachers around the world have their own successful way of teaching. I have never said that any of their ways is wrong or will not work. Why would they discredit other ways of teaching is beyond me?
