PISA exam revisited – Part 1

                                                              Anuar Ahmad from UKM

Here is my Facebook post about Anuar Ahmad dated 23.2.24.

I have been reading some articles by Anuar in Utusan Malaysia. He raises many valid points.

Here is an excerpt from one such article.

Anuar Ahmad 23.2.24

When I give views, isn't my real duty as an academician assigned to conduct research and provide views on implementing the country's education system?

They told me to shut up. I say ok, I'll keep my mouth shut. It's not because I'm afraid, but because I want to fully focus my attention, time, and energy on understanding education issues. I don't want to argue with anyone.

Even my views focus only on the education system issues, not an 'attack' on any individual. I'm silent because I don't want to lose focus to continue sharing education issues with the community.

We all have a collective responsibility to provide sincere ideas and views for improving children's education.

My comment:

My complaint is that he does not seem to accept criticisms and blocked me from his Facebook account like many on Twitter.

I want as many as possible to give their opinions including their criticisms as only then can we progress.

I give my ideas and you give your opinions and I may counter your arguments or agree with them. At the end of the day we both go away with new knowledge.

If I am wrong all I have to say is sorry. I then move on.

If the Chinese from China, who are now frequenting my blog, accept my reasoning as to why kids shut down / disengage from learning to read they will leave Malaysia far behind in Reading in English as they have done with the economy.

Don't forget where we were compared with China just 35 years ago.

My comment now:

Anuar said he would shut up but continues writing on Facebook after blocking me. How does he do research if he only talks but does not listen to opinions of experienced teachers?

One indicator of the country's state of basic education is the performance in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

What has Anuar Ahmad or the Education Department done to improve our education system?

On 4.3.24 Puan Yeo Bee Yin, in the Dewan Rakyat, raised the issue of our country’s education standard which is faltering compared to other Southeast Asian countries. LINK.

Yeo Bee Yin said, Malaysia is no longer competing with Singapore but with Vietnam.

I asked Anuar Ahmad why Singapore is always number 1 in the world and all Anuar could do was to block me on Facebook.

Read what our education expert Anuar Ahmad said and my comments. LINK.

To be continued...
