In a recent Facebook post, I noted that Grok—Elon Musk’s AI—is evolving toward a genuine pursuit of truth. A friend replied, “I shall remain a skeptic.” That skepticism is not only warranted—it’s essential.
To explore this further, I turned to another AI: Bing’s Copilot. Our conversation underscored a sobering reality. Despite impressive capabilities, AI still struggles to distinguish objective truth from popular belief. It’s not just a technical limitation—it’s a philosophical one. AI systems are trained on consensus, not clarity. They reflect the noise, not the nuance.
When AI Gets Phonics Wrong
Take, for example, the persistent error in phonics instruction: teaching /b/ as “buh.” This isn’t a minor slip—it’s a pedagogical misstep with real consequences. Children labeled as dyslexic often struggle not because of cognitive deficits, but because they’ve been taught distorted phonemes.
The Real Fight
This isn’t just about phonics. It’s about visibility. In a world that rewards noise—viral posts, popular consensus, institutional inertia—truth becomes a whisper.
My mission is to amplify that whisper. To show that confusion is often misdiagnosed as dyslexia. To expose how flawed instruction creates false labels. And to hold AI accountable—not as an enemy, but as a tool that must be sharpened by challenge.
