Can I change your mind about changing minds – Emina McLean (Part 5)

Emina:

For those loud and unpleasant few online who are openly argumentative and wilfully ignorant, can I suggest the mute or block buttons? Amplifying their voices and further cementing their views through engagement is incredibly unhelpful.

My comments: ‘Wilfully ignorant’, Yes, I know only too well of such willfully blind people. I wrote a post on this at https://www.dyslexiafriend.com/2019/11/wilful-blindness.html#more

I do not agree with blocking anyone. They have a right to say what they want even though they can be a pest. I usually ignore them and they leave. I have ignored many bots and trolls and they know I will ignore them. If I do not block them the others on Twitter will also read what they write and decide for themselves about the nature of such people.

On the other hand, I respond to those who I believe are not trolls but say things out of obligation on behalf of their friends who they may know are wrong.

As you all may know, I started writing blog posts about Summer Howarth who had gone overboard by telling lies on LinkedIn. I believe, one must make an example of such people so that others will be aware that freedom of speech does not extend to belittling others by telling lies. I had asked her to apologise on LinkedIn and move on but she is stubborn not knowing that this matter is still in its infant stage.

This reminds me of a Chinese saying ‘杀鸡儆猴’ (shā jī jǐng hóu) Lit. killing the chicken to warn the monkey (idiom); to punish an individual as an example to others.

Since the above episode all those ‘mosquitoes’ have stayed away from my posts.

Yes, I understand and agree to a certain extent what the author is portraying in her statement above. However, I believe that someone should defend other twitters who are wrongly accused as Dr.David Zyngier was accused by Summer Howarth.

I have 2641 contacts, most of whom are educators, on LinkedIn and most of them would have read the lies written by Summer Howarth. All I am asking for Summer is to go back to the comment section on the post where she commented and say that she was mistaken. I don’t believe that is too much to ask.

You may like to re-read my post on Egofound here.

Here are a few examples of ‘supporters’ of Summer who have now quietened down.

You need to stop, this is harassment. Each day you are badgering anyone unlucky enough to be included in these posts. Allow the police to conduct their investigation and leave us all in peace. Regardless of whether you sent that threatening sexual email, your behaviour is abusive

My comment now: I am eagerly awaiting the police investigation.

‘Leave all in peace’? Who are the ‘all’ this woman refers to?

How is my behaviour abusive?

'...unlucky enough to be included in this post'? Who included them in that post? Did they not come on their own free will?

Thank you - I have asked Summer and she showed me a screenshot. I have addressed this in my response to you which doesn’t appear to be appearing on your blog. As mentioned, happy to share my response via DM so you can post it. Just message me.

After this is over I will step back and let the Victorian and Malaysian police do their work. Have a nice day.

My comment now: I did message him and I can’t understand why he is unable to send me the screen shot he received from Summer.

In his message he said that someone could have hacked my email and that I should change my password.

If the Victorian Police does not act I shall escalate this matter to higher authorities. I have tagged the police on FB, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Please end this thread @luqmanmichel  It’s Friday night here!

My comment now: I did not say anything on Friday and continued after the weekend.

look at the heading of you blog, nothing of educational substance there, all personality obsessed.

My comment now: This is the problem with most of these Twitters who shoot from the hip. Did I ever say that this particular blog is on education? Anyone will know from the title what this blog is all about. It is titled ‘Luqman’s musings’.

The internet defines ‘Musings’ as a period of reflection or thought.

I believe he wants free advertisement in my forthcoming book. I shall oblige him.

There are many others but they are just like mosquitoes who have all gone into hiding.
