Ministry of Communications and Multimedia - MCMM (in Malay KKMM) Malaysia

I wrote several emails to out Ministry of Education and have yet to receive any response.

I then wrote to our Minister Tuan Gobind Singh Deo and his team at Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) on 22.10.2018.

Not receiving any reply I wrote again on 22.11.2018 (one month after my first email).

Finally on 10.12.2018 I received a reply from Ministry of Multimedia and Communication apologizing for the late response and saying that they have forwarded the email to the party concerned which I believe is Astro.

I was elated as at least this department unlike the Ministry of education responded to my emails.

For the few who are interested in details I have copied below the emails to and from KKMM.

To my friends on FB who say ‘Don’t act like you know everything’, here is a chance to write to the concerned departments and tell them why they think I don’t know what I am writing about.

I have received a response from Astro which referred to my email to KKMC. I shall post it here in the next few days.

Here is my first email to Ministry of Communication and Multimedia.

Dear Tuan Gobind Singh Deo,
The proper reason for this brief note is to inform you as Minister of communication and multimedia of the imminent danger Astro is exposing the young people of Malaysia in general and babies especially for airing its BabyTV programme concerning the teaching of phonemes, which, unfortunately, teaches phonemes wrongly.
I have brought this matter to the attention of Astro since 13th September 2018. My letters to Astro CEO, Mr. Henry Tan have not been replied to.
The Astro staff have, however, responded but their replies are just evading the real issue.
You may also refer to my posts on my blog regarding this matter at http://www.dyslexiafriend.com/2018/10/luqman- michel -vs- astro -and-baby-tv-part.html
Mr. Gobind, I am the first person in the world to discover why kids leave school as illiterates. I have successfully taught more than 60 so-called dyslexic kids on a one on one basic directly since 2004 and a few thousand indirectly via my blog since 2010 at www.dyslexiafriend.com.
Programmes such as the one aired by Astro will cause many thousands of kids to shut down or disengage from learning to read in English.
I have written three emails to Dr.Maszlee Malik and two emails to Puan Teo Nie Ching and awaiting their replies.
Attached, please find attachments to emails sent to Dr. Maszlee which explains my stand on the wrong teaching of phonics.
Please look into this immediately.
Kindly acknowledge receipt of this email.
Thank you and kind regards,
Luqman Michel

Here is my second email to MMC (KKMC) Malaysia.

Dear Tuan Gobind Singh,
I request you once again to please get Astro to stop airing the TV programme
that is detrimental to kids learning English.

The way the sounds of alphabets taught on the programme is exactly how it is taught in schools.

This morning, I requested teachers of a group I am a member in to let me know what they thought
of the programme that is being aired around the world.

Within a short time (it was late in the night for them as it was already 8 am here) many condemned the video clip.

Here are some responses together with my response. I bet there will be more tonight.

Tuan, I will hold you responsible if you do not act.

Preschool teachers on FB – comments.
Kristina King Parker This is so wrong! Adding "uh" on the sounds or letters can totally confuse the kids. Very few of these sounds were correct.

Luqman Michel Thank you very much for your comment. Please allow me to copy paste your comment on my blog post. I hope more teachers will comment.

Charleen Carrier Pugh This is terrible.

Luqman Michel Thank you . Unfortunately, BabyTv thinks otherwise. I will continue writing on this in my blog. God Bless.

Kelsey Williams Just because it’s easier to say doesn’t make it right! Very irritating

James Mulvale Doesn't sound very UK to me.

James Mulvale BabyTV was first developed in 2003 as a channel in Israel by Maya and Liran Talit and members of their family.[1][2][1][3]
BabyTV was first launched on 4 December 2003, and on 8 October 2007, News Corp's Fox International Channels acquired a major stake in BabyTV, placing it alongside its international offerings of Fox Crime, FX, National Geographic and others.[4]
In 2006, Indovision with Dori Media Distribution started operating BabyTV in Indonesia. Re-brand as Vision 3 Baby, this channel is dubbed in Bahasa Indonesia and has the same program content and schedules which Baby TV Asia beams; however, advertising is different on both beams.

James Mulvale You're right though, their HQ is in London so.. yeah

Luqman Michel Thank you James Mulvale. I read everything I had to read before posting in my blog and writing emails to BabyTV and to our TV station in Malaysia. The programme above was published on Jul 28, 2018. The producer Debbie Pattinson has said that this is a fun way to learn the sounds and does not believe it will affect children. When and if you have time please read my emails to Debbie and her response. Wish you well.

Luqman Michel Thank you very much James Mulvale. Teachers and scientists have said for decades that there is something wrong with the teaching but no one has ever said what exactly is wrong. Teachers and scientists have coined the word 'Dysteachia' but I am the first person to say that a majority of kids classified as dyslexic are actually instructional casualties. I have recently published a book with corroborative evidence on why kids shut down from learning to read in English but are able to read in Malay which uses the same alphabets as does English. You may read the first few pages on Amazon. The title of the book is 'Shut Down kids'. Everything there in the book is also available on my website for free. Thank you once again for your comment. Wish you well.

Thank you and kind regards,
Luqman Michel

The response from KKMC exactly 2 months from my first email to them.
