I refer to a LinkedIn post by Ethan Lynn where he said:
Truth: "Dyslexia is a language-based learning disorder which refers to a cluster of symptoms that result in people having difficulties with specific aspects of language, particularly phonological processing and/or orthographic processing in the area of reading."
I commented as follows:
Ethan Lynn, PhD again you are repeating what you have been saying without bothering to understand what we had discussed.
Teachers teach kids letters with extraneous sounds and then complain that they cannot blend because of phonological processing disorder.
Many children get confused and shut down from learning to read when they can't blend cuh ah tuh for the word cat. How do you expect them to blend duh ah guh for the word dog?
Did you read my post at LINK
Which part did you not understand?
It appears that Ethan Lynn is a dyslexia advocate and is bent on spreading disinformation. He asks questions but is unable to answer the questions asked.
In 2010 I started expressing my disagreement that phonological awareness deficit is the cause of dyslexia until that theory which had existed for more than 35 years was debunked in 2017. You may read more by googling. LINK
Ethan has not responded to my question but an OG tutor responded as follows:
Elizabeth “Beth” Witham • Orton-Gillingham certified trainer, supervisor, tutor
None of my hundreds of students became automatic readers once they integrated the skill of clipping their sounds. It is the beginning of the journey utilizing structured literacy.
Teaching dyslexics to read and spell is an organized, sequential process.
It is a spectrum disorder. When you meet one dyslexic, you’ve met one dyslexic.
This is a forum to support, inform, and educate others and ourselves.
We ALL have something to learn and something to contribute.
I replied as follows:
Elizabeth “Beth” Witham. You have missed the point completely. Why is it that you say what you want to say without reading what another has written?
Where did you come up with the idea that I said that 'clipping' the sound will make one an automatic reader?
Yes, we all have something to learn and something to contribute but we don't have the rights to put words into others mouth.
You said, 'It is basic but far from all they need to become readers.'
I urge you to stop putting words into others' mouths.
If you want to get out of the well get a copy of 'Shut Down Kids'.

Luqman Michel, bless and release.
These OG tutors and dyslexic advocates will say anything they can to promote their products. There is no scientific evidence that OG is effective.
Regarding Orton-Gillingham approaches used with students with dyslexia, the International Literacy Association wrote, “As yet, there is no certifiably best method for teaching children who experience reading difficulty.”
I have repeatedly said that not teaching kids the correct sounds of the letters is the cause of many intelligent kids, who are predisposed to shutting down, disengaging from learning to decode and blending letters.
Elizabeth said clipping sounds is far from all they need to become readers. Who said otherwise? It is because of people such as these that we still have kids leaving school as illiterates.
