Dyslexia vs Shut Down Kids - Part 1

Facts (I call them lies) as claimed by the British Dyslexia Association

There has been over 30 years of documented, scientific evidence and research proving the existence of dyslexia. It is one of the most common learning disabilities to affect children.

My comment: That is what the Dyslexia Association wants the world to believe and they have done a good job at that. WHY? Because of MONEY! Dyslexia is a big money spinner. Money made at the expense of gullible parents.

Dyslexia is one of the most common causes of reading difficulties in elementary school children. Only 1 in 10 dyslexics will qualify for an IEP and receive the special education services in order to get the help in reading that they need.

My comment: IEP means Individualised Education Programme. In all cases, the IEP must be tailored to the individual student's needs as identified by the IEP evaluation process. You may read more here.

The International Dyslexia Foundation, states that between 15% and 20% of the population have a language-based learning disability. Dyslexia is the most common of these.

My comment: In 2004, when I first started teaching kids certified as dyslexic, I surfed the net every day and at that time the % of dyslexic kids was commonly stated as 5%. By 2010 it went up to 10% and soon after it was stated as 20%. Obviously, it will keep increasing as now parents would want their children classified as dyslexic as they will then be entitled to IEP. The people with vested interest will benefit monetarily. Imagine the amount they will make just by intervention/ remediation. (More on this in the next few days)

Note: An old friend of mine had told me on numerous occasions that I wrote too much in one post and should restrict it to not more than a page. As such I am going to take his advice and going to write bite-sized articles spread over more than a week.
