A 5-year-old kid now reads using phonics and a few Dolch
words.
Krish is 5 years old and is in a preprimary school in
Australia.
He speaks Tamil at home.
The teacher who bought my book ‘Shut down kids’ also
acquired my books on how to teach kids to read.
She is convinced that kids can be taught to read if the
pronunciation of consonants is taught correctly.
She now has more than 10 teachers under her supervision who
are teaching kids from as early as 4 years old.
I believe my job is now done as the seeds have been planted.
There are many parents on Twitter who also understand why
kids disengage from learning to read and who will bring this matter up with
teachers and principals when the schools reopen.
Here is a video of the kid reading a simple lesson using phonics
after memorising a few sight words.
